Here in Ditmas Park Brooklyn, we removed 3 layers of old asphalt strip shingles as well as an entire layer of wood cedar shake shingles, and stripped the entire roof down to the furring strips. At this point 3/4 CDX inch plywood was then applied with a layer of felt paper. The final roofing material that we then applied to the roof was GAF Timberline shingles.
