The Steps to A Quality Spring Roof Inspection

Winter is officially coming to an end and spring is approaching which means that it is time to schedule your spring roof inspection. In a previous blog, we discussed all the various damages that the winter season can bring upon your roof. So, with the spring season upon us, now is the time to get a roof inspection sooner rather than later to address any issues you might not be aware of. Now, in order to make this a successful roofing inspection, there are some steps you should take to get the most out of it. So, let’s take a look at some of the steps to having a quality spring roof inspection.

Step 1: Calendar Reminder

First things first, a spring roofing inspection is something you will want to do every year. So, make sure that you set an annual calendar reminder that reoccurs every year around this time. This way, you will never miss one and can keep up proper roof maintenance.

Step 2: Check Your Shingles

As we mentioned previously, the winter season can bring forth many issues to your roof whether it be from the cold weather, snow, or even rain. So, make sure to check the shingles and look for any that might be missing, cracked, or damaged. You will also want to check for blisters, dark patches, and sagging roof sections as these are also serious problems that you will want to address.

Step 3: Inspect The Gutters And Downspouts

Make sure you are also inspecting for any blockages that may restrict water flow away from your house. In addition, inspect the gutters to ensure that they have not been damaged by ice dams that were formed over the winter. Finally, check and make sure the gutters are not pulling away from the house and that they do not have any holes within them.

Step 4: Examine The Flashing

For those that are unaware, a lot of leaks occur at flashing points, so, this is another area where you will want to check for signs of cracks or holes to ensure that the flashing is still secure.

Step 5: Look Inside

Some homeowners tend to forget to check inside and it can cost them dearly. Make sure to grab a flashlight and inspect all the attic spaces for signs of water leaks. Don’t forget to check the interior of the home to find any evidence of a leak.

Step 6: Call A Local Expert

Finally, you want to make sure that you contact an experienced and licensed contractor to do a thorough inspection. Make sure that they are also bonded and insured, and that they provide you with a written warranty for any work.
